EVENTS

City Sculpture has been a gathering place for artists, students, and Detroit community members since 2015 — hosting screenings, artist talks, open park events, and collaborative programming that brings experimental art into public life.

We are actively working toward our next chapter of public programming. Stay tuned for upcoming events and new announcements as we continue to grow.

In the meantime, we welcome inquiries for private events, educational visits, and collaborations. If you're interested in working with City Sculpture, we'd love to hear from you.

Tales of Geometry - Preview Screening @ MOCAD, 2023

Tales of Geometry is an in-progress documentary directed by Deb Agolli and Robert Sestok. The film features 27 artists, gallerists, and collectors who lived and worked in Detroit's Cass Corridor neighborhood during the late 1960s and 1970s — a community that transformed the raw material of a city in upheaval into some of the most vital contemporary art of its era.

The Cass Corridor movement emerged when a group of painters, sculptors, and printmakers gathered near Wayne State University and began making work that reflected the energy and struggle of their surroundings. In 1971, they founded the Willis Gallery, which brought national and international attention to Detroit's art scene. The movement — arguably Detroit's only major contemporary art movement — influenced generations of artists who followed.

The MOCAD preview offered audiences a first look at footage still in production, drawing on interviews with Corridor veterans alongside artists active in Detroit today. The result is a living archive: a bird's-eye view of a movement that never really ended.
